Vilet II™ braided coated suture is indicated for use in superficial soft tissue approximation of the skin and mucosa where only short-term wound support is required, but not for use in ligation, ophthalmic, cardiovascular or neurological procedures.
Vilet II™ suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue. Tensile strength is a progressive loss that occurs by means of hydrolysis. Absorption of Vilet II™ occurs when the polymer degrades to glycolic acids which are subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body.
Vilet II™ (PGA) suture approximately retains 75% of the original tensile strength at 2 weeks and 50% at 3 weeks during subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats.
Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass. Complete absorption of Vilet II™ sutures is essentially complete between 90 and 100 days.
Vilet II™ (PGA) suture is supplied sterile in precut lengths attached to various needle types in one dozen boxes, also available precut non-needled.
